Online registration for admission to Indian schools in Oman soon

Muscat: Online registration for admission to Indian schools will begin from January 8, 2017, the board of Indian Schools in Oman has said.
Every year, the board receives more than 4,000 applications for admission to six Indian schools in the capital area for classes KG I to IX.
In 2016, the board received around 4,700 applications.
With around 2,500 seats available every year, providing admissions to all the applicants is very challenging for the board.
“But we managed to provide admissions to all candidates last year,” an official said.
Parents will be informed about the school allotment and admission dates. “The vacancy status will be updated after the first lot of admissions end, and wait-listed applicants will be considered for the second draw, which will be held later,” the official said.
The centralised system with online registration, introduced by the board of directors, has made the admission procedure easy for parents as wells as school authorities who had to face a flood of applications in the past.
“The objective of the online admission system is to facilitate parents to have easy access to information pertaining to admission and allied matters. Parents can access and fill application forms and submit them online. They can also get to know the results of the selection process and it, thus, makes the system transparent and hassle free,” the board said.
As of today, the total number of students in all Indian schools is a staggering 45,000, with a sizeable number of them enrolled in the six schools in the capital.
It has also been observed that the demand for seats is more in lower classes, from KG I to Standard II. “We have been waiting for months now,” said B Roy, an exasperated Indian expatriate who moved to Muscat from New Delhi six months back.
Another mother, A P Chakraborty, said she never thought it would be so difficult here. “I was under the impression that admissions are very easy here, but really that is not the case,” she said.
