Samatel subscribers in Oman asked to port out, can opt for Renna

Muscat: Samatel’s customers can move to the growing mobile reseller Renna, a senior official of the Integrated Telecommunications Oman (SAOC) said.
Darren Tong, Chief Executive Officer, Integrated Telecommunications Oman, said, “Integrated Telecommunications Oman, also known as Telecom Oman, acquired Renna in June 2016. The announcement concerning Samatel represents our intention to migrate Samatel’s old customers to a more vibrant platform.”
Samatel LLC was renamed as Integrated Telecommunications Oman few years back.
“Renna has more than 600,000 subscribers, and represents the largest and fastest growing mobile reseller in the market today. We are confident that our longtime Samatel subscribers will appreciate the competitive offers provided by Renna, and we look forward to doing more for all of our customers in the months to come,” he told the Times of Oman on Monday.
His statement comes after mobile reseller Samatel announced termination of its mobile services in the Sultanate, effective January 15, 2017.
“Any Samatel subscribers who wish to keep their Samatel numbers are requested to port their Samatel numbers to any operator of their choice to continue using their mobile number.

“Subscribers may submit a port-out request for any valid Samatel SIM in person at our office at the second floor of Ghubrah Plaza, 18th November Street, Muscat or send a request by email to [email protected].
“Samatel will bear the cost of porting the number to the requested operator for all requests received before February 15, 2017, along with a refund of any previous balance on the SIM,” Integrated Telecommunications Oman (SAOC) said in an announcement issued on Sunday.
An official of the Samatel clarified that the Samatel mobile numbers will continue to work for the next one month.
“Customers will have one month’s time to change to any other operator, but it won’t hamper many people in Oman as the firm did not have too many subscribers in the Sultanate,” the official clarified.
Samatel was launched as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in 2010, using the network of Ooredoo Oman, and won a Class I telecoms licence to provide international telecom services in 2011.
It announced plans to re-launch its MVNO services in 2015 under the name Integrated Telecommunications Oman (TeO) and later acquired the country’s first MVNO, Renna Mobile, in June 2016.
