Muscat: Nineteen Omani nurses will soon become the first to complete a specialist training course at the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom.
The nurses studied alongside students from the University’s Institute of Health Professions last year and completed a clinical placement at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
They also received support from the University’s International Academy, based at the Telford Innovation Campus.
These nurses comprised the first group from Oman to complete the BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (International) top up degree, which has been designed to enhance a student’s knowledge, skills and practice of contemporary nursing issues in an international context.
Course leader Caroline Lowe said, “The students’ contribution to the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing has been invaluable while studying alongside UK students and completing a clinical placement at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.”
Her colleague Ann Saxon added, “The students have all been wonderful ambassadors for their country, demonstrating a high level of motivation and dedication towards their studies.”
Feedback from the students included this observation: “I have had an amazing experience at the University of Wolverhampton. It was a unique opportunity. Academics were great and the university’s staff was more helpful than I ever expected.” Yet another student said, “It was a pleasure to be at the University of Wolverhampton with great teachers, as we gained from them a lot of knowledge and skills which will be beneficial in our future practice.”
The students will complete their programme of study next month and will be returning home early this year.
