Muscat: Urging people to stay informed and be ready to act if a warning is issued, Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) has sent out some thunderstorm safety tips.
The safety tips list sent out by PACA said during a thunderstorm people must rush to the nearest building or vehicle and use it as a shelter.

"Avoid standing under tall trees, lamp-posts and telecommunications towers. Don't risk working or standing in high places such as hills," it said.
The list reminded that lying on the ground increases chances of getting struck by lightning.
"If you happen to be swimming, get back to land immediately. If you are away from safe areas, sit in a bending position," it said.
"Cut off the electric connection from your home devices. Remember lightning can travel through telephone land-lines and don't use you cell phone unless necessary." it said.
"Lightning may result in fire incidents. Make yourself and equipment ready for any situation," people were told/
"Stay away from glass windows and metal doors. Cancel or postpone any outdoor activities," it said.
