Muscat: More than 3.7 million passengers used Mwasalat buses in 2016, according to the company.
While more than 10,000 passengers travelled every day on an average, the National Transport Company Oman, “Mwasalat,” said Friday remained the busiest day of the week.
Despite a reduction in fuel subsidies, Mwasalat confirmed that ticket prices will remain stable at their current level.
“Prices may be reviewed but there will not be any significant increase,” the company said.
The Ruwi-Mabelah route was the busiest in 2016 with more than 1,500,000 passengers travelling the stretch, followed by Ruwi-Wadi Kabeer route taken by more than 800,000 commuters.
The Ruwi–Muttrah–Qasr-Al-Aiam route recorded more than 370,000 passengers last year. The total number of passengers along the domestic routes in Muscat Governorate between January 1 and December 31 stood at 3,453,645.
On the intercity lines, Mwasalat transported 277,039 travellers from Oman to the UAE. The highest percentage of Omani passengers was recorded at 45 per cent on the Ruwi–Mabelah route in the first week of January 2017. Omani passengers comprised 30 per cent of the travellers during the period of survey (December 1, 2016 to January 8, 2017).
