Muscat: Temperatures are expected to drop to below zero in the hills and below 10 degrees Celsius in the deserts and open areas after a low pressure hits Oman on Thursday.
“We are expecting that this weekend will be the coldest in Muscat this year,” an official of the Oman Meteorology Department said.
Latest analysis shows that the Sultanate may be affected by a low pressure with chances of isolated rain over northern governorates from Thursday which will bring down the temperatures considerably. “This will continue until Saturday,” the official added.
A senior meteorologist from Accuweather.com told the Times of Oman that Saturday will likely be the chilliest day in Muscat with a high around 18-19C and lows around 12-13C.

“This is because of the cold air which will press southward across Oman,” Jason Nicholls, the senior meteorologist from Accuweather.com, said.
The low pressure is expected to cause rainfall and possible snowfall in Jebel Shams and Jebel
Akhdar.
Elaborating further, an official said weather will be cloudy to partially cloudy with chances of occasional thundershowers over Musandam, Oman Sea and Al Hajar Mountains.
“There are also chances of cloud development and isolated light rain over Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates,” the official said.
Last week, heavy rain fell in several areas of Oman, causing massive flooding, overflowing of wadis, disrupting flight movements and closing down of Muscat Festival and some schools on Tuesday
