Muscat: Oman’s national transport company, Mwasalat, on Monday unveiled its brand identity for the company's much-awaited taxi service.
The national transport company plans to sign contract with 400 drivers, who will use the technology and brand identity of Mwasalat, for operating the cab service this year, Ahmed Ali Al Balushi, chief executive officer of Mwasalat, told journalists on the sidelines of UITP Mena Seminar and Assembly on Monday.
The new brand identity was unveiled under the auspices of Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi, minister of transport and communications, and was attended by senior officials from the ministry and Mwasalat.
He said that the company would start taxi service soon, after the Ministry of Transport and Communications announce a new regulation on such a service.
“Our next step is to contract these drivers (owners of taxis) and the service will be mostly from airport and malls. We will apply the same theme on their vehicles, train them and conduct medical check-up to see that they are medically fit to become taxi drivers,” added the Mwasalat chief.
The vehicle for taxi service should be less than five years’ old.
Mwasalat is also developing an application for the proposed cab, which will be available towards the end of the third quarter.
“Passengers can use the application for using the service and it is similar to Uber,” noted Al Balushi.
