Muscat: Duqm Airport project is expected to be complete by the end of this year, a top Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA) official has said.
Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Za’abi, CEO of the Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA) confirmed that the completion percentage in the work of the third phase of A’Duqm Airport Project in the Governorate of Al Wusta reached 50 per cent and it is hoped that all construction work of the project will be completed by the end of 2017.
The passenger terminal, navigation and meteorology complex, including a control tower building and cargo building and other facilities for companies operating the airport are all expected to be complete by then, he said.
Dr Al Za’abi explained in a statement that the operation of A’Duqm Airport and moving of the passengers terminal will be done in 2018.
Total readiness
Before moving to the airport total readiness is to be ensured by all operators, including Omani Airports Management Company (OAMC) Oman Air, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and other agencies in coordination with the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (SEZAD).
He said that the current number of domestic flights between Muscat International Airport and A’Duqm Airport stands at four per week and there is a plan to increase the number to five flights a week.
Stressing that the current airport is witnessing a large turnout by the citizens and tourists, entrepreneurs and existing business at the Special Economic Zone
of Duqm.
