Muscat: Fahud, Qarn_Alam, Zamaim, Muqshin and Al_Mazyunh will be hit by a sandstorm on Thursday, the Oman Meteorology Department has said, with rains continuing in the northern parts of Oman. “A south western wind entering Oman will result in a sandstorm in open areas,” the Oman Meteorology Department’s tweet read.
Meanwhile, a weather enthusiast said northern parts of Oman had witnessed rain for the second consecutive day.
“Rain has been reported in Musandam and its neighbouring areas,” Bader Ali Al Baddaei, an administrator of www.rathth.net, a local web-based forum that discusses weather in Oman, told the Times of Oman.
Last Sunday, the Meteorological Department had predicted heavy rain for four days due to a depression. “Muscat, Al Dahirah, Buraimi, North and South Batinah, Dakhliyah, North and South Sharqiyah will be hit by heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds and chances of a hailstorm,” the department had said in an advisory posted on its official Twitter handle.
“The wadis will overflow,” the department said, advising the public to remain cautious. “Dhofar and Al Wusta will also witness rain and high waves will be high up to 2.5 metres in Oman Sea and the coast of Mussandam.”
