More than 100 companies to participate in Thai trade fair

Muscat: More than 100 Thai companies will be participating in the forthcoming Thai Trade Exhibition, which is scheduled to run between May 9 and 13.
The event looks to build on the success of last year’s event, which was the first of its kind in the Sultanate, which saw more than 20,000 visitors and generated nearly OMR11.5 million in revenue for the 85 businesses and organisers who participated in the expo, and bigger numbers are expected this time around.
“The Thai government has always supported entrepreneurs and small and medium business holders to seek overseas markets to establish partnerships, and we believe Oman has the potential to become one of them,” said Jesda Katavetin, the Ambassador of Thailand to Oman.
“Oman is developing its infrastructure, which includes a new airport and seaport, and once these are completed, the nation will become an excellent gateway for Thai businesses to enter the GCC and beyond,” he added.
Knowledge-based economy
“Likewise, Thailand has been transforming into an innovative, advanced and knowledge-based economy and we are very keen to encourage Oman is to invest in Thailand. We could serve as a gateway to South East Asia and its 600 million people, who occupy an area that is roughly the size of China.”
The expo will be held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre between May 9 and 13. While the first two days will be restricted only to businesses who wish to form partnerships with the Thai companies who will be arriving in Oman, the other three days will see the event open to the general public.
The expo is open from 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 10pm on weekdays, and from 4pm to 10pm on Friday.
A variety of sectors
The companies that will be arriving in Oman have been drawn from a variety of sectors, including health and wellness, food and beverages, hospitality, cosmetics and beauty products, jewellery and home furnishing.
Vega Intertrade and Exhibition, the exhibition’s organisers, are expecting a 10 per cent growth in revenue over last year’s overwhelmingly positive returns.
“The trade fair is a powerful marketing tool for Thailand to promote our products and services to Omanis,” said Akavut Tangsiliksonwong, the company’s managing director. “There is a high demand for Thai hospitals and medical services, as well as other Thai products such as oud oil, spa products, herbal and organic products and home decoration items.
“I believe the fair will help boost bilateral trade between the two nations, Thailand and Oman,” he added.
The exhibition is being held in collaboration with the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion in Thailand, the Federation of Thai Industries, the Thai Business Council – Dubai and Northern Emirates, the Thai Exporters and Manufacturers’ Association, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Royal Embassy of Thailand in Oman. “We believe this will allow Omanis to know more about Thai products and services, and are hoping to see business people from both sides seek potential economic partners,” said Hassan Ramadhan Suleiman, deputy director general for the Oman International Exhibition Centre.
