Dar Al Atta’a Let’s Read Campaign has been promoting the love of reading to children in Oman since 2007. The campaign’s committee achieves its aims in a variety of ways, by setting up play rooms, libraries and reading areas in hospitals, schools and nurseries.
On the last Saturday of each month, Let’s Read collects used books and holds a sale at the Al Qurum Complex.
Speaking about developing reading habits in children, Jane Jaffer said, “Our organisation encourages children to read. Reading is a the key to qualifications and a bright future. Reading changes lives, it broadens minds, improves vocabulary, enhances social interaction, and promotes empowerment. Reading can have a very positive effect on one’s health and happiness.
“The simplest way to make sure that we raise literate children is to teach them to read, and to show them that reading is a pleasurable activity. And that means, in its simplest form, giving children access to good books and the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of reading material. Parents who show their children how much they value reading themselves are more likely to raise children who love reading”.
