Muscat: Oman weather stations recorded an almost 50 degrees Celsius difference in temperature in different areas of Oman in 2016.
According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the weather average for Oman last year was between a maximum of 31.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22.6 degrees Celsius.
However, individual weather stations recorded the highest temperatures in the country in June and July.
Al Suwaiq particularly saw a 50 degree high for July of 2016, while the lowest recorded temperature was at Sayq Airport, with 1.5 degrees recorded in February 2016.
Sayq Airport also recorded the second lowest temperature for January of 2016, at 1.6 degrees, and has generally retained a cool climate over the course of the year, with a high of 31.5 degrees in available records for August.
Maximum temperatures recorded in the Sultanate include 49.8 degrees in Saham, 49.6 degrees in Al Khabourah, 49 degrees in Shinas, and 48.9 degrees at the Sohar Airport last year.
The coldest temperatures recorded were between 1 and 5 degrees, as Al Awabi saw 3.2 degrees temperature in April last year, while Sayq saw 4.3 degrees in February, and Hayma saw 4.9 degrees in February of last year.
According to NSCI statistics, the mean temperature in the Sultanate has not seen drastic change over the course of the last decade.
In 2007, the country saw an average high of 31.6 degrees, and a low of 21.5 degrees, which is comparable to the 2016 data.
The highest mean temperature recorded in the last 10 years was in 2009, when it was 32.4 degrees Celsius.
The lowest mean temperature was in 2008, at 21 degrees Celsius.
Sohar, Saham and Shinas have already seen a 49 degree high this year in June, according to Accuweather.
