Muscat: Oman Oil had launched portable filling stations—the first in the Sultanate—earlier this year to benefit customers’ needs, especially in remote areas.
“So far, we have introduced a few in the port of Duqm. (There are) More to come,” said David Kalife, chief executive officer (CEO) of Oman Oil Marketing Co.
“It is something which is new and very innovative. It is the first time you will find it in Oman,” CEO Kalife said, explaining how the stations are designed with cutting-edge technology to meet the fuelling needs of its customers’ commercial needs. He added, “It is designed in a certain way, you have all benefits of being with Oman Oil in a remote place.”
The company had sensed demand for a mobile filling station that could be accessed in the remote and distant locations of Oman.
“The customers wanted something which was mobile. Especially because they have their own customers to service in several parts of these cities,” he said.
Oman Oil has made sure that these filling stations are safe and not prone to environment or life hazards. “We take important care about safety. Safety comes first. It is temperature-proof and the way we tested it, it’s fine,” Kalife said, noting that portable filling stations are designed in such a way that they prevent oil-leaks and fire.
Earlier this year, Oman Oil had introduced longer hoses at its service stations with the aim to save the customers’ waiting time due to longer queues on one side. “We decided to develop two-sided fuel dispensers, which is a new technology and which only Oman Oil is bringing to Oman.
It uses longer hoses in order to fuel both sides so that we can ease the fuelling process and the customer doesn’t have to wait as long as before,” he stated. 20 service stations in five cities across Oman have introduced longer fuel dispensers so far.
Oman Oil has also received a license to open filling stations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
“In terms of service stations in KSA, in 2015 we got a license to open a service station. We have been working on it and studying the market,” said Kalife.
The first Oman Oil service station in KSA will be opened as early as next year.
