Muscat: Marc J. Sievers, US Ambassador to Oman, was present at Oman Avenues Mall to officially inaugurate the American Automobile Display – which was organised by Oman Avenues Mall, in cooperation with the US Embassy.
The display formed a key part of the US Embassy’s ‘Discover America 2017’ campaign currently ongoing until mid-November – with a vision to promote American businesses in Oman, and to celebrate the US-Oman partnership and bilateral ties shared between the people of the United States of America and Oman.
It took the form of a spectacular showcase of famous ‘All American’ vintage and classic cars, contemporary American auto brands, as well as a selection of American off-road vehicles and motorhomes.
Sievers took part in a photo session with members of the local press, before being led on a tour by Oman Avenues Mall representatives to some of the participating Discover America 2017 brand outlets.
The tour included the Mi Store, representing Apple brand consumer electronics, Borders bookstore, and a stopover at the Häagen-Dazs ice-cream outlet, where Sievers sat down with the Häagen-Dazs brand representative for light refreshments.
This was followed by a visit to the Empora multi-brand fashion outlet, as well as a visit to the Oakley outlet later in the day. Sievers then made his way outside to the Oman Avenues Mall parking lot for the official American Automobile Display inauguration and ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a look at each of the models being showcased.
The first section of the display featured vintage American cars from the Sultanate of Oman’s Classic Car Club. Highlights included two vintage Model T Fords from the early 1900s; mid-20th century Ford Mustangs; and vintage Cadillac Eldorado and Zimmer Golden Spirit models.
The second section included the latest models from iconic American automobile manufacturers including Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Jeep, Lincoln, and RAM. Some of the highlights included a Jeep Wrangler Limited Edition, the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango and Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang 5.0L GT Black Edition and California Special Edition, the latest Cadillac, as well as Chrysler luxury sedans, Chevrolet Camaros, and the 2017 Continental Reserve and 2017 MKZ Reserve models from Lincoln.
The display also featured off-road adventure vehicles from Polaris and a Sunseeker motorhome by Forest River recreational vehicles. Finally, Sievers greeted members of the Muscat Chapter of Harley Davidson owners in Oman, who had assembled a comprehensive selection of models made by the legendary American motorcycle brand.
Over the three days of the American Automobile Display, visitors to Oman Avenues Mall, as well as car enthusiasts from all over Muscat and Oman, could enjoy exploring the prestigious American auto brands featured at the event.
Oman Avenues Mall, the US Embassy, and the Oman American Business Center partnered to organise the Discover America 2017 campaign, scheduled to run over two weeks. It kicked off recently at the Sky Lounge Balcony at the Oman Avenues Mall, where guests were able to indulge in American-style canapés made with American ingredients from Lulu Hypermarket, the sponsor of the evening, and which had been created by students from the National Hospitality Institute. Stephanie Hallett, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Oman, was present for the evening.
