Muscat: Oman is currently taking part in the World Travel Market (WTM) 2017, which was opened in London with the participation of 5,000 tourist destinations exhibiting their products and services.
The Sultanate’s delegation is headed by Maitha’a bint Saif Al Mahrouqiyah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism who said that the Sultanate is keen on taking part in WTM in London as its forums, activities and panel discussions provide a unique opportunity for reviewing the latest development in the global tourism industry. She added that WTM is an ideal opportunity to promote for the Sultanate’s tourism potentials at the European tourism market, one of the targeted markets by the Ministry.
She pointed out that the number of tourists from Europe in 2016 stood at 401,784 including 137,170 from the UK. The number of UK tourists who visited Oman as of October 2017 stood at 98,556.
Many meetings with public delegations, investors, businessmen, travel and tourism agencies were held at the Sultanate’s pavilion at the first day of the Market.
The three-day WTM 2017 will have more than 80 seminars that will cover the different economic sectors including aviation, hotels, honeymoon plans, cooking, sports travel, responsible tourism, the role of social networks and travel technology.
