Muscat: The Silver Jubilee Annual Athletic Meet of Indian School Darsait was held at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Bausher on recently with great enthusiasm, team spirit and camaraderie.
The chief guest Soud bin Bader Ambusaidi, director of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Oman declared the meet open in the presence of guest of honour S. A. S. Naqvi (Olympian-Oman) former Indian Hockey player and coach, and the members of SMC, including Ajayan Poyyara, president, Jaikish Pavithran, vice president, C. X. Varghese, head - Sports Sub Committee, Dr Sridevi P. Thashnath, principal, vice principals, staff, a huge gathering of parents, students and well-wishers.
The inaugural ceremony started with the torch relay that marked the beginning of the 25th Annual Athletic Meet of ISD. The chief guest received the salute of honour from the march past contingents of the four houses - Tagore, Bapu, C.V Raman and Vivekananda, whose agility of movement, timing and coordination mesmerised the spectators. Thashnath accorded a cordial welcome to the chief guest, guest of honour, dignitaries and all the stakeholders of Indian School Darsait present at the venue.
The inaugural ceremony was followed by the awesome and scintillating inter-house finals of the track events. Budding athletes put up a breath-taking show, which gave the audience moments of great joy and cheer. A spectacular mass drill that showcased the callisthenic skills by the kids of primary section was definitely a wonderful spectacle to behold, while the synchronised movements of students of classes 6, 7 and 8 that displayed skills of self-defence, cooperation and exuberance, and depicted the ‘ISD Silver Jubilee year formation’ conquered the hearts of many. The chief guest, guest of honour, Dr Baby Sam Samuel, director, BOD and by all other dignitaries, honoured winners of track and field events and games with medals and certificates. CV Raman House won the coveted champions trophy while Vivekananda House lifted the runner-up trophy. Moreover, the prestigious trophy for march past was grabbed by Bapu House while Tagore House mustered the second slot. Trophies for individual champions and best all-rounders were also given away.
Nanda I. S., head girl and Harikrishnan Lal Pillai, head boy proposed the vote of thanks to all for making the athletic meet a sweet memory to carry home. They expressed their gratitude to the blooming athletes, administrators, HoD Co-scholastics, the Department of Physical Education, teachers and non-teaching staff. Varghese declared the meet closed.
