Ibri: The Ministry of Heritage and Culture continued the excavation work at the Al Khatam Archaeological Tower in cooperation with a mission of the University of Bologna, Italy.
The excavation is part of the effort to complete the restoration work of the archaeological site of Bat, Al Khatam and Al Ain, in the Wilayat of Ibri in the Governorate of A’Dhahirah, listed on International Heritage List.
This is the third stage of the excavation work to restore and rehabilitate this important archaeological tower in the coming stages, and this tower is located on the street, opposite Pat archaeological site.
This season of excavation revealed that the tower was settled during three periods in the third millennium and the second millennium BC by studying the discoveries found on the site.
These discoveries indicate that the construction and use of the tower dates back to the period of Wadi Souk (about 2200-1600 BC). The most important of these discoveries is a bronze dagger and a number of decorated stone vessels, as well as a white limestone rock with a picture of an animal (probably a deer or a cow).
It is likely that this rock was reused from a tomb of the Um Al Nar (about 2200 -2600 BC), and a pottery fragment, date seeds and some fruits, wheat and animal bones, as well as an ornate seal and some pounders.
