PACP helps customer get OMR10,300 refund from car dealership

Muscat: More than OMR10,000 is to be recovered for a consumer after defects appeared in his vehicle.

The Department of Consumer Protection recently managed to recover more than 10 thousand Omani Rials for a consumer through a friendly settlement agreement between the consumer and a car agency, as part of the efforts of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection to resolve complaints received from consumers.

PACP said in detail of the complaint: "The Department received a complaint from a consumer stating that he had purchased a new vehicle from a car dealership for OMR 10,300. After receiving the vehicle, several defects showed up, such as the rear bumper of the vehicle, resulting in noises while driving. The vehicle's counter indicated that it had registered a distance of 34 kilometers, meaning that the vehicle had been used before."

"The consumer returned it to the agency which denied any defects, confirming that the vehicle was new and had not been used before. Therefore the consumer filed a complaint to the authority, which began procedures to investigate the complaint. During the investigation the consumer and the agency managed to come to a friendly settlement which stipulated the return of the amount paid to the consumer," the authority added.
