
Muscat: A delegation from the Indian National Defence College (NDC), headed by Major General Harkirat Singh, which is currently visiting the Sultanate, was received at the State Council on Monday.
During the visit, members of the delegation were greeted upon their arrival by the State Council members, Sheikh Nasser bin Saeed Al Haddabi, Nasser Rashid Hamed Al Bahri, Dr. Wafa Salim Ali Al Harrasy and the Assistant Secretary General for Media and Public Relations of the Council.
Al Haddabi stressed the strong relations between the Sultanate and India, and the continuous development and promising future prospects for strengthening these relations.
He pointed out the importance of such visits in ascertaining the evolution of the Shura process in the Sultanate, in addition to contributing to enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in all fields.
On his part, Major General Harkirat Singh expressed his deepest thanks and appreciation to the Council members for their warm hospitality and added that they consider the visit very important for current and future relations.
The delegation praised the comprehensive development of the Sultanate under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and prayed for his good health and happiness and further progress and prosperity of the Sultanate.
As a part of the visit, the delegation toured the Council’s premises and viewed a documentary featuring the State Council, which detailed the functions and powers of the Council, the tasks and responsibilities entrusted to it, as well as the organisational structure of the Council and its major organs.
It also defined the profile of the Oman Council, its role and significance in governance. The documentary touched upon the special provisions of the Basic Statute, which specifies the membership number, the mechanism for their appointment, terms of membership, and the differences between the membership and role of the State Council and the Majlis Al Shura.
Also, it highlighted the role of the Council of Oman, the role and the provisions of the State Council according to the stipulations of the Basic Statue.
