Muscat: Oman's Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has ordered a recall of M95 petrol from a few fuel stations in Oman, after complaints of a lack of supply and quality in some parts of the country.
The withdrawal will only affect some fuel stations in Buraimi and North Batinah governorates, MOCI stated.
In its full statement, the ministry said, "Further to the statement issued by the Ministry on September 3 regarding the reported lack of supply and quality of the fuel product 95 at some fuel stations in the governorates of North Al Batinah and Al Buraimi, the Ministry would like to draw the attention of the public as a precautionary measure, that the Ministry has ordered the withdrawal of stock of fuel product 95 of those stations."
The ministry added: "MOCI has coordinated with the marketing companies and ORPIC ( Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company) to refuel these stations with new stock.
"Because this process may take some time, your trip may temporarily affect the availability of fuel 95 at these stations. We request consumers to go to alternative stations during this period."
The ministry confirmed that other oil products such as diesel and M91 petrol will still be available at these stations, with a team of specialists from the Ministry and fuel companies being formed to follow up these orders and to re-supply M95 petrol as soon as possible.
On September 3, ORPIC had issued a statement after rumours of poor quality petrol at some fuel stations, saying, "Orpic reassures the public that all its petroleum products are supplied to all marketing companies with the same quality as per the approved measures and specifications in the Sultanate of Oman."
