Muscat: Another student in Salalah has been documenting the effects of tropical storm Luban in Dhofar, as it continues to batter Oman's southern coast.
Parts of the Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates have received heavy rainfall, and people have been warned not to go near the sea, which has turned extremely rough due to the storm, as documented by British School Salalah student Sandrine.
In the video, Sandrine shows the evacuation measures underway by emergency services, as they try to clear people away from the beaches.
“Pretty messy, the sea!” she says, from the safety of her vehicle. “The police are driving up and down the beach because they think the sea will come up, so they are evacuating people from the beach. They are telling people to move away.”
Sandrine and her fellow students have been documenting the effects of Luban on the Dhofar Governorate. A decision was taken by the Ministry of Education to close all schools in the region on Thursday, so people could stay safe from the storm.
British School Salalah also issued a circular reflecting the same.
"I am sure that you will appreciate that given the damaging effect Cyclone Mekunu had in May it is advisable for us to remain closed because conditions can change very quickly. Please rest assured that we do try and will continue to try to make decisions to close school as early as we possibly can," stated Ahmed Al Talib, Principal of BSS in the circular.
BSS was closed on Thursday, and depending on the situation in the Dhofar, will only open once school authorities think it is safe to do so.
