Muscat: The Sultanate has jumped 14 places, highest worldwide, in the competitiveness index, said Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of the Statistics and Information Centre (SIC) of Oman’s National Office of Competitiveness, during the second meeting of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( OCCI) Evenings held at the head office of OCCI under the theme “ Enhancing Competitiveness of the Sultanate”.
Oman was the only country in the GCC States which made a progress in the 2018 competitiveness report, he said, adding that the Sultanate’s ranking in the same index was 47th worldwide during the year 2018.
The World Competitiveness Report is issued by the World Economic Forum annually and considers the results of over 140 countries in competitiveness in accordance with the international competitiveness criteria.
The report relies on two mechanisms for collection of data which are the opinion polls and the data and information obtained from international organisations.
