Expat jailed, deported for manufacturing banned tobacco

Muscat: An expat has been sentenced to six months in prison and will be banned from re-entering the Sultanate once his prison term is completed, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) announced.
According to officials, the expat was arrested for manufacturing and selling banned "chewing tobacco". Officials also said that the preliminary court in Ibra issued a judgement against the "the expat worker for violating the Consumer Protection Act".
Officials from Oman's consumer watchdog said that PACP in Ibra received a complaint from a consumer, claiming that there was an expat had been manufacturing and selling tobacco. With the help of the Royal Oman Police, the department inspected the house and large amounts of tobacco and funds were confiscated.
The accused was also fined OMR 2,300, and sentenced to prison for six months. He will also be deported from the country.
