Muscat: Oman's Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has sentenced an expatriate to six months in jail, in addition to being fined OMR1,000 for selling fake engine oil, [cheating customers and working without a licence]. According to officials at PACP, the court also ordered the shutdown of the shop for two months. In a statement online, PACP said, “The Primary Court of Buraimi sentenced an expat to six months in jail and fined him OMR1,000 for selling fake oil engine. The court also ordered the closure of the shop for two months.” PACP added, “The incident occurred when one of the consumers asked the accused to change the engine oil by using a certain type of oil brand. But the accused replaced the high quality oil with a cheaper variety. “Inspection teams found a metal box mixed with oil at the shop. The accused then admitted to his crime,” the statement explained. After the completion of the legal proceedings, the accused was referred to the Public Prosecution. He was then referred to the court, which upheld the ruling.
