​Expat pharmacist imprisoned, fined for selling illegal drugs

Muscat: An expat was fined, imprisoned and ordered to be deported for selling and advertising sexual performance drugs, a report from the Public Authority of Consumer Protection (PACP) revealed.

The authority said in a statement: "The Court of Appeals in Al Mudhaibi issued a judgment in favor of the Consumer Protection Department in North Al Sharqiyah governorate against a worker who was found practicing pharmacy profession without a license, and for the sale of unregistered drugs in the ministry which violating public morals; and violating the labour law in the country with a profession he was not authorised to practice."

The sentence included a fine of OMR1,000, six months imprisonment, deportation from the country after the expiry of his sentence, confiscation of drugs and seizures, and the confiscation of the money collected from the crime to the state treasury.

The details of the case refer to a complaint to the Department of Consumer Protection in North Al Sharqiyah that the expat was in possession of and selling medical capsules (pills) not authorized to trade without obtaining licences from the competent authorities. The Department followed up with the accused until he was caught red-handed with various materials. Some were seized in the shop and some were at his home, which was searched after obtaining a warrant from Public Prosecution.
