Muscat: All meat products that licensed to be imported into Oman go through rigorous testing from a joint team, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
A statement by the ministry read, “As soon as the ministry receives a request to import animal products from outside the Sultanate, there is coordination with the Iftaa Office and the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources to create a joint team of experts to visit the institutions that wishing to export to Oman. The institution’s application of health and safety, quality assurance, and its applications of Sharia requirements are all tested before the company is given a permit to export its products to Oman’s markets.
"This goes for all companies,” the statement added. “The ministry has monitored what has been circulated regarding some meats that are being imported into the Sultanate, and how some of those may not be prepared in accordance to Sharia requirements. The ministry confirms that it applies a set of regulations and procedures that are designed to make sure the product is prepared according to Sharia requirements and that it is safe, in coordination with authorities both in and out of the sultanate.”
