Dubai: Sheraton Oman Hotel in Ruwi, which has remained closed for nearly eight to nine years for refurbishment, will once again throw open its doors this summer, a senior official at the Ministry of Tourism said.
The Director General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Tourism, Salim Al Mamari said the hotel has been undergoing renovation and, “we are hoping that by June it will open.”
“The opening will help boost the tourism sector in Oman,” he said, on the sidelines of Arabian Travel Market in Dubai.
Interestingly, the Sheraton Oman Hotel has put up a stall at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. “The hotel is totally renovated and we will accept bookings from July to August if someone is interested in booking a room at this hotel,” an official, who is attending the stall, told the Times of Oman.

Built in 1985, the Sheraton Oman is a landmark in the city of Muscat and is also one of the tallest buildings in the city with 14 floors.
The newly renovated hotel will have 230 elevated rooms, including 27 suites for its guests.
Besides this it will have nine meeting rooms, two board rooms and an Oman ball room, with close to 1200 square metres, and will be one of the biggest in the country, according to an official at the Sheraton Oman Hotel.
The hotel will also have four restaurants and a lounge. “Among them will be The Courtyard– an all-day dining place, which will have a capacity of 220 guests and Asado–an Argentinean Steak House, where 100 guests can be accommodated,” the official said.
There will also be two pools, one indoor and one outdoor, besides a spa and a fitness area.
An official said that work is going on in full swing to open it this summer. “That is one of the reasons we are participating in this Arabian Travel Market,” the official added.
Interestingly, the Ministry of Tourism had announced on Monday that they will be adding around 3,000 hotel rooms in the Sultanate by 2020, taking the number to close to 20,000 rooms to double the number of international visitors to the Sultanate.
