Chinese trade team gets acquainted with investment in Oman

Muscat: A high profile Chinese delegation was briefed about Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and its industrial estates, besides incentives and facilities offered to local and foreign investors.
The delegation, headed by Quan Zhezhu, executive vice-chairman of All China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), on Tuesday visited the headquarters of PEIE at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat.
The delegation, which also comprised representatives of various trade and economy sectors in China, was received by Hilal bin Hamad Al Hasani, chief executive officer of PEIE, who stressed the significance of boosting further business and investment ties between the Sultanate and China.
Quan Zhezhu hailed the efforts made by PEIE to provide an apt environment for the investors in the various industrial estates. He also expressed his aspiration to witness advanced trade and industrial relations between the Sultanate and China.
Vision and mission
Al Hasani highlighted the vision of PEIE to enhance the Sultanate’s position as a leading regional centre of manufacturing, ICT, innovation and entrepreneurship excellence, and its mission in attracting industrial investments and providing continued support, through regionally and globally competitive strategies, good infrastructure, value adding services, and easy governmental processes.
The objectives of PEIE were also underlined which include attraction of foreign investments to the Sultanate and localisation of the national capital; contribution to stimulating the private sector to achieve sustainable economic and social development and strengthening relations with the concerned organisations to facilitate investment process and overcome obstacles faced by investors.
Reinforcement of cooperation with related organisations to advance experience exchange, knowledge and techniques; development of employees’ skills and performance training programmes; contribution to creation of new employment opportunities; encouragement of exports and establishment of export industries, and increase the market share of locally manufactured products; stimulation of the economic sectors in the Sultanate including transport, tourism, banking, were the other objectives.
The Chinese delegation familiarised themselves with the vision and aspirations of the Knowledge Oasis Muscat to enhance Oman’s position as the region’s leading centre of business excellence, innovation and entrepreneurship.
They were also introduced to the services and facilities offered by the Knowledge Oasis Muscat for companies operating in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, and the role played by KOM in developing an ideal environment for the growth and prosperity of companies specialised in the field of ICT in the country.
Value addition
PEIE officials highlighted the value-adding initiatives of PEIE including the Industrial Innovation Centre (IIC) which aims at assisting industrial progression through research and development, and building capacity by encouraging local academic institutions to engage in applied industrial research and development.
