Herat: More than 80 militants have been killed in Afghanistan over the past three days as government forces continued to battle insurgents, officials said Monday. In the latest operations against anti-government militants, the security forces pounded hideouts in Chardara district of the northern Kunduz province Monday morning, killing four armed fighters and injuring three others, provincial police spokesman Inamudin Rahmani said. According to Rahmani, no security personnel were hurt in the ongoing operations. Similarly, operations against insurgent fighters in Pashtrod district of the western Farah province on Sunday killed eight insurgents and injured nine others, police spokesman in the province Mohibullah Mohib reported. Government forces also killed 19 militants in the northern Faryab and 15 others in the eastern Ghazni provinces over the past 24 hours, officials confirmed. Additionally, at least 55 armed insurgents were killed and several others injured during operations in the southern Kandahar and adjoining provinces over the past three days, provincial police chief of Kandahar Tawdin Khan said Monday. Fighting in the country has intensified amid efforts to bring a peaceful end to the ongoing war in Afghanistan.
