Bribing voters to attract heavy fines in Oman

Muscat: Giving voters money for casting their votes is a crime punishable by up to three years imprisonment and a fine of OMR3,000.

Public Prosecution said in a statement: "Dear citizen and resident, giving, committing or pledging to give a voter interest (under any name, gift, charity, assistance or other) in exchange for his or her vote in the elections, is a crime punishable by 3 years imprisonment and a fine of OMR 3,000."

"The penalty shall also apply to anyone who mediates, facilitates or incites to do so," the notification added.
