Shanghai: Chinese automakers are pushing the limits for their counterparts by using revolutionary technology like artificial intelligence, and by implementing vigorous marketing campaigns.
Their presence is already being felt in the Gulf Cooperation Council market including Oman, they are also planning to enter the US and European markets in a big way.
During a press conference in Wuhu, Zhang Guibing, president of Chery International, gave a glimpse of the future course of the global auto sector and how to deal with the challenges amidst tough competition from the rivals.
With the diversification being the buzzword in the GCC, the day is not far when these modern vehicles will enter in the Omani market and other GCC countries in a big way.
But currently, the GCC is an oil-driven economy, so Chinese automakers are walking on a tightrope with the introduction of hybrid cars and Electric Vehicle Technology in the region, he said.
With deep pockets, they are investing big in research and development to gain a substantial lead over the others.
The top official of Chery International said, "The total Chinese investment is nearly equal to the rest of world investment."
Targeting the younger generation with state-of-the-art technologies, they are plugging the gap with their rivals around the world.
Today the Initial Quality Study (IQS) gap between Chinese brands and other international brands is becoming narrower, according to a J D Power report that was released in 2019. The study measures new-vehicle quality by examining problems experienced by new–vehicle owners within the first two six months of ownership.
The overall initial quality score is determined by problems reported per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower number of problems indicating higher quality.
Planning to take its rivals head-on, Guibing said they see Toyota as belonging to the older generation, Hyundai as that of the middle generation while Chinese auto brands are those of the younger generation.
"No doubt new technologies are going to drive the vehicles of the future and bring youth to their fold," he said with confidence.
"Facial recognition and 360 degrees surveillance in vehicles are going to improve the safety and security of motorists. For a dozing driver, there will be an automatic wake-up call. Driving is going to be fun in the future amidst complete safety of not only drivers but also pedestrians,” he added.
"Multiple-vehicle collisions on the highways will become a thing of the past with the introduction of 5G technology as the incoming vehicles will automatically swerve away from the accident spot."
The president of the giant automaker seemed confident that his company will be among the top car makers in a few years.
