Institution in Oman slapped with fine

Muscat: The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) closed an institution in Sohar and handed down a prison sentence along with a fine for the defendant.

According to the PACP, “Saham Primary Court recently issued a court ruling against a defendant for violating the consumer protection law promulgated by Royal Decree No. 66/2014, with a sentence of conviction, imprisonment and a fine because he didn’t provide the product during the agreed period, nor did he commit to provide the consumer with an invoice with the basic information in the Arabic language.”

“The accused worked outside the scope of the sponsor as he dealt with the complainant in the institution of the second accused while he was not his sponsor,” the PACP added.

The authority concluded with a statement stressing the need to adhere to the provisions of the consumer protection law and its executive regulations, and to commit to transparency and credibility with consumers in order to avoid legal accountability.
