Muscat: The Education and Research Committee of the Council on Tuesday hosted the Director of Engineering at Occidental Oman (Oxy Oman) as part of the committee's study on: "The reality of scientific research and the role of private sector companies in supporting and developing it" to add value to its on-going study.
The sixth meeting of the first annual session of the seventh term headed by Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Sulaiman Al Toobi, Committee Head, was held in the presence of the honourable committee members and several employees of the General Secretariat.
The meeting discussed with the Director of Engineering at Occidental Oman, topics of the study that included, challenges facing scientific research, contribution of the private sector to the support of scientific research, the scientific research infrastructure in the private sector and its ability to deal with qualitative research and proposals and mechanisms to help develop the scientific research support system.
It is worth mentioning that the importance of the study accrues from the role of scientific research in technical and industrial progress and its positive impact on development, the need to strengthen the infrastructure of scientific research, support spending on it, and the importance of urging the private sector and international companies operating within the Sultanate to support scientific research.
The study aims to identify the reality of the local, regional and global policies and legislations that regulate the process of the private sector's contribution to scientific research and raise its efficiency, identify its role and propose legislations and mechanisms to regulate the process of the contribution of the private sector and international companies working in Oman in scientific research.
In addition, it also plans to propose mechanisms to help localise technical expertise at all levels.
