Antibiotics not effective treatment for COVID-19, says WHO

Geneva: Are antibiotics effective in preventing and treating the emerging coronavirus?

A statement issued online by the World Health Organization (WHO) said, "Antibiotics are not effective in preventing and treating the emerging coronavirus because antibiotics do not destroy viruses, they only kill germs."

"Coronavirus-2019 is a virus, so antibiotics should not be used to prevent or treat it. However, if you are admitted to hospital for the emerging SK-2019 virus, you may be given antibiotics for the possibility of accompanying bacterial infection," the statement added.
