Muscat: Number of Omani nationals working in the private sector registered a marginal 0.2 per cent increase in April 2016 compared with figures for March 2016, according to the latest bulletin published by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
As of April 2016, Omanis employed in the private sector numbered 210,074, as against 209,608 Omanis in the previous month.
Significantly, the report showed that as of April 2016, females constituted less than a quarter of the total Omani workforce in the private sector, at 51,323.
Salary levels
A great majority of Omanis employed in the private sector drew a salary of OMR325 - 400. Their numbers logged a 2 per cent drop to 62,577 in April 2016, compared with March figures. In contrast, as many as 7,812 Omanis working in the private sector were entitled to a hefty salary of over OMR2,000 and their numbers rose by 0.6 per cent in April, compared with the previous month.
The number of Omanis with a salary of OMR400 to 500 posted a rise of 1.4 per cent during the period to touch 48,767, even as the number of those earning OMR500 to 600 fell 0.4 per cent to 21,856.
As many as 15,478 Omanis were paid a salary of OMR600 to 700 in April 2016, and their numbers increased 0.3 per cent over March figures. Further, an increase of 0.1 per cent was recorded in the number of nationals drawing a salary of OMR700-800, with their numbers standing at 9,728.
All round rise
Nationals employed with the private sector with a salary of OMR800-900 and OMR 900-1,000 registered a rise of 0.2 per cent and 0.7 per cent respectively over the period to reach 6,946 and 5,422 respectively. The number of Omani employees salaried OMR1,000-2,000 too rose 0.7 per cent to 19,771 in April compared with March, the report said.
Giving details of Omani employees in the private sector across the governorates, the NCSI report pointed out that Al Buraimi registered the highest growth rate of 1.3 per cent in April 2016, with 3,714 nationals working in the private sector, followed by A’Dhahirah where their numbers rose 1.0 per cent to 9,472.
Muscat numbers
Muscat witnessed a drop of 0.1 per cent in the number of nationals in the private sector at 70,783 while Dhofar registered a rise of 0.5 per cent at 13,195 Omani employees during the March-April 2016 period.
Musandam saw a fall of 0.6 per cent in Omani workers at 1,145 while A’Dakhiliyah reported a 0.8 per cent rise in Omani workers at 24,799.
The number of nationals working in private companies increased 0.2 per cent to 38,786 in North Al Batinah while the increase was 0.7 per cent in South Al Batinah at 20,110 Omanis.
Further, South A’Sharqiyah logged a 0.5 per cent fall in the number of Omani workers, which declined to 12,759 in April 2016 while North A’Sharqiyah posted a 0.2 per cent rise taking the number of Omani workers to 12,991. Al Wusta reported a 3.5 per cent drop in the number of Omani workers at 1,394 in April compared with March.
