Muscat: A travel office in Muscat Governorate, found guilty of violating Consumer Protection laws, will have to pay a fine of OMR 1,000 and its owners will face an one month imprisonment sentence.
The First Instance Court in Muscat recently issued a court ruling against the establishment. The Consumer Protection Authority, in a statement said, "A complaint was received from a consumer stating that he had reserved return tickets for travel from Muscat to Amman for five people, but the office reserved one-way tickets only. When the consumer enquired about baggage limit, he was informed that only one-way tickets had been booked. This forced the consumer to book other tickets to return from another office."
The court also issued a ruling obligating the institution to pay the consumer an amount of OMR 715 for the value of the service and obligated the accused to pay the expenses, for their violation of Article (20) of the Consumer Protection Law.
