Muscat: A meeting of the Joint Committee of School Health for the academic year 2020/2021 was held at the General Directorate of Health Services of Dhofar Governorate.

A statement said, "At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Mashaikhi, Director General of the General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar, stressed on the importance of obtaining news only from reliable sources. He then pointed to the high rate of recovery among Covid-19 patients in September, compared to previous months and said that awareness campaigns must continue."

Dr. Tufool  bint Suhail Qatan, Assistant General Director for Administrative and Financial Affairs, spoke of the mechanism used for classifying schools in the governorate based on population density and added that the integrated education system ensured a balance between direct attendance and distance education. "Dr. Tufool explained that suspected cases of Covid-19 were reviewed on a weekly basis and indicated that precautionary measures are in place untill new orders are received from the Supreme Committee."

"The aim of the meeting of the Joint Committee of School Health is to review precautionary measures that have been applied in educational institutions since the beginning of the current academic year 2020/2021, in addition to discussing the guidelines for monitoring the epidemiological situation and dealing with outbreak hotspots at schools," the statement added.
