Muscat: A team of students (Rakeezh) from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Muscat, took first place at the level of the Arab world and the 22nd global position in the 2021 Google HashCode Contest, which saw a turnout of 9000 teams from around the world.
The Omani team consisted of four students majoring in program engineering. They were Ahmed Salim al-Alawi, Ammar Ali al-Hudaifi, Khalfan Sulaiman al-Busaidi and Lo’ay Hudaib al-Habsi.
The competition, in which international programmers participate, judges the participants’ potential and capability to come up with innovative solutions to complex programmatic problems in Google within a limited timeframe. Due to the current circumstances dictated by coronavirus, a virtual version of the contest was launched on 25 February 2021.
