Muscat: The Health Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council noted that the necessity of taking antibiotics when suffering from colds is a rumour, as many people believe that if they catch a cold, they should take the antibiotics before the situation worsens.
The Health Council clarified that according to specialists in the field, antibiotics are not useful in treating colds caused by viruses, and it is advised to stay away from antibiotics because of their short and long-term complications.
The doctors also advised that in cases of simple cold and flu, one must take rest and increase fluid intake while taking painkillers when needed.
