Muscat: The number of visitors to Dhofar in the Khareef season 2023 recorded an increase of 18.4 per cent to reach about 962,000 compared to 813,000 visitors during the season last year.
Data issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information also indicated an increase in spending by visitors this year, reaching OMR 103 million compared to OMR 86 million in 2022, while the number of nights of stay of visitors also increased to 7 million nights compared to 6 million nights in the Khareef season 2022.
The data showed that the number of Omani visitors reached 666,307, representing 69.2 per cent of the total, while the number from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries reached 190,853, representing 19.8 per cent. 68,100 tourists came from Asian countries. The number of visitors from Arab countries reached 31,214, and 3,740 visitors were from Europe, 1,982 visitors from other countries.
Spending on stay increased by 19.4 per cent during this year compared to the 2022 season, recording OMR 33.6 million accounting for 32.2 per cent of total spending, followed by spending on food and drink at OMR 25,598,657, accounting for 24.9 per cent of the total spending. While spending on travel tickets accounted for 18.8 percent, amounting to OMR 19,268,818 while spending on other items amounted to OMR 24,693,979 .
