Muscat: The Ministry of Education celebrates Omani Teachers Day on February 24 every year, embodying the role of teachers in building generations.

Teachers in Oman are spreading knowledge under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

His Majesty the Sultan attaches great importance to the education sector and His Majesty’s visit to Sultan Faisal bin Turki School in November last year was an embodiment of his great interest in the education field.

The visit was a strong incentive for all those working in the education sector, and an affirmation of the importance of their fundamental role in building a bright future for the country. It is also a message of appreciation for the efforts of teachers who work sincerely to boost the educational process and provide quality training to enhance their capabilities and provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge to keep pace with global advancements.

The celebration of Teachers’ Day comes as a tribute to the role played by the teachers in the educational process, as they are the driver of the educational process, and instil the values of loyalty, tolerance and community service in the youth from the time they join school, and direct them in choosing the right path.

The number of teachers and administrators in government schools in the Sultanate of Oman reached 74,316, with the growth rate of 3.1% during 2020-2024 while in 1,223 private schools, the number of teachers and administrators reached 22,539.

Omani teachers enjoy continuous attention from the ministry who provide them training and organise workshops to enhance their professional and functional capabilities in accordance with the

ongoing developments and transformations witnessed in the educational field.

Among the most prominent things that the Omani teachers have enjoyed is the establishment of the Specialised Institute for Professional Training for Teachers, the Main Training Institute and training centres in the governorates that contribute to supporting the efforts of Omani teachers. The Specialised Institute for Professional Training for Teachers offers several programs for teachers, school administrations and support jobs. During the year 2024, those targeted in these programmes reached 24,430, including 13,492 in strategic programmes, 1,156 in central programmes, 2,653 in national programmes, and 7,129 in decentralised programmes.

The number of categories supervised by the Specialized Institute for Professional Training for Omani teachers who hold higher degrees reached 4,250, from the categories of teachers, school administrations, supervisors, and support jobs, including 3,721 with a master’s degree, 529 with a doctorate degree.
