Muscat: As part of Muscat Governorate's continuous training programmes to enhance institutional performance and increase readiness to face challenges, and for integration and coordination between government institutions, a training workshop entitled ‘Enhancing Administrative Capabilities in Risk Management and Business Continuity Methodologies’ was held on Tuesday in Muscat Governorate.
The workshop was held in cooperation with Jadarat Development Foundation and presented by Dr. Khalifa Al Fathi, an expert in governance, risk management and compliance.
The workshop targeted more than 120 staff from the offices of Their Excellencies the governors, employees of government agencies, and representatives of civil society organisations in Muscat Governorate.
The workshop focused on introducing participants to the concepts and basics of enterprise risk management, international frameworks and standards, as well as mechanisms for designing and applying effective methodologies to manage risks and ensure business continuity.
The workshop also discussed the differences between risks, opportunities and issues, the types of risks and their classifications, as well as the steps to assess and address them according to best practices.
The workshop aims to strengthen the capabilities of the participants in preparing effective ERM models, develop their awareness of the applied procedures related to risk management and business continuity, and enable them to make decisions based on a scientific and thoughtful assessment of risks.
"This workshop aims to build the capacities of participants and develop their knowledge in the basics of risk management and business continuity planning to ensure the continuity of providing vital services during risks," said Saif bin Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Rubaei, Director of Risk Management in Muscat Governorate.
This initiative is part of Muscat Governorate's efforts to enhance coordination and integration between government and civil society institutions in the governorate to achieve Oman Vision 2040, and to contribute to raising the efficiency of institutional performance and enhancing the quality of life.
Dr Salwa bint Nasser Al Hashemi, Head of the Emergency and Crisis Department at the General Directorate of Health Services in Muscat Governorate, praised the efforts of the Governorate in organising such training workshops, stressing that this workshop holds great value and benefit for her and her colleagues due to the nature of their work in dealing with crises and risks.
Noman bin Zahran Al Rawahi, Head of Muttrah Charity Team, affirmed the importance of such training workshops that contribute to introducing employees to the concept of risk management and how to apply it, noting that this concept has become part of daily working life and has been adopted today by most organisations and institutions to enhance their efficiency in the face of challenges.
Intisar bint Salem Al Siyabi, an employee at the Wali of Bausher Office, expressed her views, saying: "I was pleased to attend this workshop, which addressed a vital topic that contributes to the sustainability of projects and organisations, and introduced me to new and useful concepts in risk management."
Ali bin Muslim Al Ameri, from the General Directorate of Social Development in Muscat Governorate and coordinator of the Shelter Committee, said the workshop addressed risk management methods, whether in the normal work environment or in crises and emergencies, stressing that he benefited from the information presented, especially with regard to the programme for dealing with emergency situations and its practical application in daily tasks.
Sultan bin Mohammed Al Farsi, Directorate of Education in Muscat Governorate, highlighted that educational institutions are not isolated from risk management, as they face the same challenges that other organisations go through in preparing for crises.
He pointed out that special committees have been formed at the school level, and all employees have been equipped with training and familiarisation with risk management methods to ensure their readiness.
This workshop was well appreciated by the attendees, who praised the scientific content presented and its importance in developing organisational performance and enhancing operational resilience in various sectors.
Through this workshop, Muscat Governorate confirms its commitment to continue implementing quality-training programmes targeting various government cadres, to improve organisational performance and enhance the readiness of teams to face future challenges efficiently and professionally.
