Oman committed to strengthening satellite applications for weather forecast

Salalah: The 20th regional workshop on Satellite Applications (SAC20) began today at the headquarters of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in Dhofar Governorate.

The five-day event is organised by the Civil Aviation Authority in collaboration with the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT).

The workshop, which includes regional and international experts from nine countries, is part of a larger effort to enhance regional capabilities in using satellite data for weather forecasting. It highlights Oman's commitment to advancing its meteorological services and strengthening its regional and international standing through scientific lectures, discussion sessions, and practical exercises.

The workshop aims to promote the use of satellite data and imagery in meteorological applications, including monitoring clouds, thunderstorms, dust, and other weather elements. It also focuses on applications of the third generation of Meteosat satellites, developing the skills of weather forecasters and researchers, and facilitating the exchange of expertise among participating countries.
