Muscat: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) today launched a professional student registry codenamed “Itqan” (perfection), which seeks to provide a unified mechanism for documenting all professional practices of students and boost their readiness to join the labour market.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
“Itqan” offers an opportunity for self-assessment and helps students link professional practices to academic learning objectives. It also ensures credibility in documenting the students' acquired experiences and skills.
The registry covers various types of activities and practices. It includes on-the-job training programmes, field visits, workshops, competitions, hackathons, training camps, exhibitions, part-time work, membership to professional associations, volunteering activities, entrepreneurship projects, the publication of scholarly papers and guidelines about intellectual property.
The certificates issued by the registry to students after their graduation provides with added value that enhances their competitiveness in the job market.
“Itqan” is a step forward in UTAS plan to enhance the quality of teaching and learning and establish an integrated academic and professional environment that enables students to excel in Oman and abroad.
The registry helps groom future leaders and enable UTAS graduates to professionally integrate into public life and different work environments.
