Oman conference to shape growth of space ecosystem in the Middle East

Muscat; The second edition of the Middle East Space Conference, organised by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in cooperation with Novaspace, will commence on Monday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre and continue for three days.

The conference will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Kamil bin Fahad Al Said, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers,.

Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology., stated that organising the second edition of the conference builds on the success of its inaugural edition.

He noted that the event is expected to attract more than 450 senior decision-makers, representing over 190 entities from more than 20 countries.

In a statement to the Oman News Agency, he explained that the conference will bring together government leaders, space agencies, senior executives from the space industry, investors, innovators, and academic institutions, with the aim of contributing to shaping the next phase of growth of the space ecosystem in the Middle East.

He added that the conference represents a high-level platform for strategic dialogue and partnership-building, reinforcing the Sultanate of Oman’s position as a pivotal regional gateway for space applications, infrastructure development, and investment attraction.

He indicated that the conference will address the strategic, operational, and enabling dimensions of space sector development in the region.

 The sessions will cover national space policies, space agency strategies, satellite programme development, ground systems, financing mechanisms, and international cooperation frameworks, while highlighting the evolution of the space landscape in the Sultanate of Oman.

He further noted that the programme will focus on the practical applications of space technologies, particularly satellite communications and Earth observation, and their role in enhancing connectivity, urban development, the energy sector, climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and the protection of vital infrastructure.

He affirmed that the conference seeks to accelerate cooperation, stimulate investment flows, and support the development of sustainable space capabilities aligned with regional priorities and global market dynamics, through bringing together key public and private sector stakeholders.

He added that the event reflects Oman’s ambition to play an active role in the regional space economy and to strengthen its position as a neutral and forward-looking platform for international cooperation.

An accompanying exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the conference, with the participation of a number of governmental institutions and local and international private companies operating in the space sector.

The exhibition aims to bring together providers and users of space services and technologies on a single platform, facilitate knowledge exchange, build effective partnerships across the sector’s supply chain, showcase the latest technologies and innovations, attract investment opportunities, and raise awareness of advances in the space industry.

He also noted that the conference will host a meeting of the Arab Space Cooperation Group, contributing to enhanced Arab coordination and integration in various space fields and supporting the exchange of expertise and best practices.

The accompanying events will include introductory tours for international delegations to key tourist sites in the Sultanate of Oman, highlighting its tourism potential and strengthening international presence, in addition to specialized scientific and recreational activities in astronomy and space sciences aimed at promoting scientific culture and stimulating interest in space technologies among different segments of society.

He concluded by stating that the conference will witness the signing of a number of memoranda of understanding and partnership agreements between governmental and private institutions at the local and international levels, reflecting the growing role of the conference as an effective regional platform for supporting strategic partnerships in the space sector.
