Urgent appeal made for blood donation in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Health’s Department of Blood Banks Services (DBBS) has issued an urgent call for blood donations after a decline in blood reserves across the Sultanate of Oman.

In a public notice, the department said it was forced to cancel several scheduled blood donation campaigns this week due to organizational reasons and a noticeable decrease in the number of donors in recent weeks. As a result, blood stock levels have dropped significantly.

The department stressed the urgent need to boost blood donation rates during the current week to ensure a steady supply for healthcare institutions. It called on all eligible donors to take the initiative and visit blood donation centers, particularly Bousher Central Blood Bank and the Seeb Blood Donation Centre, to help meet the daily requirement of approximately 150 units of blood.

The Ministry emphasised that regular blood donations are essential to maintaining sustainable supplies for hospitals and saving lives, noting that community participation plays a vital role in supporting the national healthcare system.

The Bausher Central Blood Bank operates from Saturday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the Seeb Blood Donation Centre (Al Araimi Boulevard) is open Sunday to Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
