India: In a deeply distressing incident that has shocked the residents of Ghaziabad, India, three minor sisters aged 12, 14, and 16 died after jumping from the ninth floor of their residential building in Bharat City, Sahibabad. The tragedy occurred during the early hours of Wednesday, February 4, 2026, and has highlighted the extreme psychological impact of digital addiction on young minds.
Preliminary investigations by the Ghaziabad Police suggest that the sisters—identified as Nishika, Prachi, and Pakhi—were struggling with a severe obsession with online Korean content and gaming. According to authorities, the girls had become increasingly withdrawn, having stopped attending school approximately two years ago. In an attempt to break this addiction and improve their academic focus, their parents had recently intervened by removing access to their mobile phones and imposing strict screen-time restrictions.
Distressed by the loss of their primary emotional coping tool, the sisters reportedly moved to the prayer room of their apartment while the rest of the family was asleep. After bolting the door from the inside, they used a chair to climb to a window and jumped one by one. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing a loud noise around 2:15 a.m., and despite being rushed to a nearby hospital in Loni, the girls were declared dead on arrival.
Police recovered an eight-page suicide note and a diary from the scene. In the note, addressed to their father, the girls expressed deep sorrow but stated that "Korea was their life" and they felt unable to live without their digital world. The note also mentioned their loneliness and a sense of disconnection from reality. Authorities are currently analyzing the girls' mobile devices to identify any specific online tasks or games that may have influenced their actions.
"The Police Response Vehicle (PRV) received information at approximately 2:15 am that three girls had jumped from the balcony from 9th floor in Bharat City, located in the Tilamod police station area, and had died at the scene. Upon reaching the scene and conducting an investigation, it was confirmed that the three girls, identified as Nishika (approximately 16 years old), Prachi (approximately 14 years old), and Pakhi (approximately 12 years old), daughters of Chetan Kumar, had died due to the fall. They were taken by ambulance to the 50-bed hospital in Loni, where doctors declared all three girls dead. The police are conducting further legal proceedings," the ACP said.
An investigation is underway, and further details are awaited.
