Heavy rains continue in Quriyat, several wadis overflow

Quriyat— Heavy rains continued today across coastal and mountainous villages as well as residential neighborhoods in the Wilayat of Quriyat, including Hail Al Ghaf, Al Mazari’, Hay Al Dhahir, Al Sahel, Dagmar, Dhabab, Bama and Fins.

In a statement to the Oman News Agency, Yasser bin Saud Al-Zadjali, member of the Muscat Governorate Municipal Council representing Quriyat, affirmed that precautionary measures were implemented early following forecasts issued by the Civil Aviation Authority regarding expected rainfall across the Sultanate.

He noted that three schools in Al Dhahir, Al Ghadir, and Umm Al Hakam in Al Mazari’ were designated and fully equipped as emergency shelters. However, no families have required relocation so far, and essential services — including electricity and water — remain uninterrupted. No significant material damages have been recorded.

Al-Zadjali highlighted that government entities, led by the Royal Oman Police and Muscat Municipality in Quriyat, have been actively responding since the onset of the rains, operating around the clock. Field inspections are also being carried out continuously by the Governor and relevant officials.

Road conditions across the Wilayat remain stable and passable, with no major disruptions to traffic. Exceptions include two unpaved mountain roads in Wadi Al-Arabiyin and Amq Al-Rabbah, which are expected to be rehabilitated once weather conditions improve.

The rainfall has led to the flow of several wadis, most notably Wadi Dayqah Dam, where water levels remain below 50 percent capacity. Other active wadis include Fins, Bama, Al Rahab, Al Safah, Ras Al Shajar, Al Arabiyin and Amq Al Rabbah.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as weather conditions persist across parts of the Sultanate.
