OCCI affirms role of private sector in supporting economic development

Muscat: Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) held its Annual General Meeting today, chaired by Faisal Abdullah Al Rowas, OCCI’s Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The meeting discussed the annual report on the Chamber's activities, the final financial statements for the ended fiscal year 2025, and the auditor's report for the fiscal year ended 31 December 2025, and approved them.

Faisal Abdullah Al Rowas, Chairman of the Chamber's Board of Directors, affirmed that the economic phase currently being witnessed by the Sultanate of Oman reinforces the role of the private sector as a primary partner in development, under the royal care of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik who accords great importance to empowering the private sector and enhancing its role in the march of national development, embodying his wise vision to support economic diversification and build a sustainable economy.

He indicated that the Chamber has continued to perform its role in representing the private sector through qualitative initiatives and programs, and expanding partnerships to improve the business environment, stimulate investment, and enhance competitiveness, alongside strengthening communication with business owners in various governorates and conveying their views through effective institutional channels.

He emphasized that the royal care and continuous attention that the Omani private sector receives from His Majesty embodies the pivotal status His Majesty accords to this sector as a primary partner in national development.

Al Rowas explained that the recent Royal directives to establish the Economic Coordination Council and enhance the support and incentives directed to the private sector confirm His Majesty's keenness to empower the private sector and maximize its role in economic growth.

He also stressed that the Chamber has enhanced dialogue between the public and private sectors through sectoral committees, business councils, and economic meetings to discuss economic issues and develop the business environment. It has also continued to expand trade and investment cooperation with Arab and friendly countries.

Al Rowas pointed out that the Chamber continues to develop its system of services and programs to enhance institutional performance efficiency and elevate private sector services. The year 2025 witnessed the implementation of numerous initiatives and programs supporting the business environment through economic meetings and forums, expanding services, enhancing support for national projects, and promoting Omani products. It also worked to align its efforts with the targets of Oman Vision 2040 through initiatives to diversify the economy, empower investment, and enhance the role of the private sector, in addition to strengthening the role of its branches in the governorates to support balanced development.

During the meeting, the Chamber highlighted its efforts to consolidate the status of the private sector as an active partner in achieving economic development objectives, by strengthening its presence in economic decision-making circles, expanding its network of local and international relations and partnerships, and supporting its openness to markets and promising investment opportunities, as well as continuing its programs aimed at empowering SMEs and vitalizing economic activity in the governorates.

The meeting witnessed constructive interaction from the members of the annual general meeting, who put forward a number of observations and development visions related to the priorities and challenges of the private sector, embodying the Chamber's approach based on partnership, consultation, and enhancing the participation of its members in shaping its future directions and work programs.

The Chamber concluded its meeting by emphasizing that it will continue to enhance its role as a main representative of the private sector and an active partner in the economic development journey, through developing its initiatives and services, expanding the scope of its partnerships, and continuing its efforts to support the competitiveness of the business environment and enable the private sector to contribute further to achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
