Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) on Wednesday opened an 8-kilometre stretch of the upgraded Siya–Qutnah Road in Al Jabal Al Akhdar Governorate, marking a major step towards improving connectivity and supporting tourism in one of Oman’s most popular mountain destinations.
The newly opened section forms part of a 9-kilometre road enhancement project and was opened to traffic on July 29.
The road begins from the main Al Jabal Al Akhdar road opposite the Dusit Hotel and extends to the Al Makhb area, passing through Shanut.
According to the ministry, the road has been fitted with comprehensive traffic safety features, including steel guardrails, concrete barriers, as well as directional and warning signs to improve safety for motorists and other road users.
Officials said the project is expected to strengthen tourism activity in Al Jabal Al Akhdar by providing easier and safer access to tourist attractions and residential communities.
The improved road is also expected to enhance traffic flow and reduce travel time for both visitors and residents.
The road upgrade is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to develop the country’s transport infrastructure, improve road safety, and support economic growth through better connectivity to key tourism and residential areas.
